Inman Valley House
Inman Valley House is self-sufficient. Its highest soaring roof carries photovoltaics and a solar hot water service; water needs are serviced by rainwater tanks and an onsite sewage treatment plant.
Soaring roof lines guarantee maximum solar access and therefore heat gain during winter months and sufficient shade during summer. Rammed earth walls increase the thermal mass inside the home, helping to moderate the internal temperature against the considerable external temperature fluctuations. Recycled timbers and corrugated steel cladding add to the carefully considered materiality. Rainwater funnels into a large central box-gutter running the length of the building, and cascades from roof height into an underground storage tank via a landscaped pond.
