Aldinga House
The award-winning Aldinga House, is located at the north edge of the Aldinga Arts Eco Village overlooking Willunga Creek valley.
The compact house tilts to the north, partially bedded into the upper slope of the site with the major fenestration to the north for view and solar gain.
The semi-transparent veil-like conservatory on the eastern side transfers warmed air in winter using a solar powered domestic exhaust fan ensuring zero “fossil” energy use throughout winter.
A mezzanine overlooks the Living area, and its clerestory windows provide winter warmth, views to the north sky, and act in the vertical stack effect ventilation system in summer.
The main bedroom under the mezzanine is bedded one metre into the earth and is of masonry construction, enabling minimal temperature variation.
Village infrastructure treats waste water for irrigation of communal land, and stores stormwater in ponds.
